How Dancing with Stars works

The Stars

In August of the previous year, local well known community-minded leaders are chosen to participate in Dancing with Stars.  They are paired up with an instructor and a dance they will perform is chosen.   They begin to rehearse beginning in December and continue until the event in April. They are given a list of guidelines. These state what is expected of them and gives them levels of sponsors for the dancers themselves to complete for the People’s Choice Award. In order to make the most from the event, we also begin seeking sponsorships for the event itself

Sponsorship

The dancers will begin gathering sponsors for themselves which count as votes. Each $1 counts as a vote.

Voting

Voting begins in March and is a month in duration.  CWH staff will provide the weekly voting statistics of each Star.  If you don’t like the statistics, you must participate by pledging to support your Star. This is how the People’s Choice is chosen.

Party!

We will have a VIP "Meet the Stars" party in April after with refreshments. Don’t miss out!  Details to follow.

 

 

 

 

 

2012 Dancer's Guidelines and Agreement

- Practice dates, times, and hours:  As a guideline, dancers should be prepared to practice 1- 2 times per week for a min. of 1 hr starting in the month of November until the event, April 18, 2012. The dance studio and instructors' availability dates and hours will be posted at the kick-off meeting in November so dancers may schedule their lesson times and plan accordingly.

 

- Facility/location: Two dance facilities will be provided for Dance lessons: 

1. The Bridge’s Community Center (Old Town Sharpsburg)

    105 Main Street, Sharpsburg, Ga.   

2. Peachtree City Recreation Center- Glenloch,

    Steven Entry off Hwy 54 in Peachtree City facility. 

 

We request all lessons be conducted at one of these two locations for dancer safety.

 

- Fund raising: Coweta’s Dancing Stars is a fund raising event benefitting The Community Welcome House.  Each dancer should be prepared to ask for online votes and/or sell sponsorships to generate fund raising contributions through their personal & professional network.  The previous three years' dancers have raised an average of $3,000-$5,000 each.  Previous year People's Choice Awards winners have raised: $8,500 and $10,300 respectively.

 

- Important Dates: Dancers should be able to attend the following scheduled events:

1. Dancer Kick-Off Meeting- TBD

2. Dress Rehearsal- Monday, April 16^th at 7:00 p.m.

3. Dancing with Stars Show- Wednesday, April 18^th, Arrival time 5:30 p.m.

 

- Instructors and Dance choice: Dancers will be paired with instructors according to height, ability and dance preference.  Rachel will be working with each team during the first few practices. 

 

- Showmanship: Dancers and the Show will benefit from those dancers who can provide showmanship and personality to their performance.
